My name is Medha and I'm a third year undergraduate student at UC San Diego. I'm a Cognitive Science major on the pre-medical track. As a student, I've always greatly enjoyed writing, language arts, and language learning (specifically Spanish). During my time in high school, I was deeply involved in my high school speech and debate team and attended multiple regional, state, and national level tournaments. I was also a part of the leadership of our team, guiding novices in both speech and debate in preparation for competition in one-on-one coaching sessions.
I was a peer tutor in high school for two years, one year tutoring Algebra 1 and one year tutoring Spanish 2 (equivalent to second year Spanish) in a one-on-one setting. Additionally, I worked as a Center Assistant and learning instructor at Kumon for one year, teaching basic math, reading, and writing to 40+ kids from the ages of 4-8.
For me, as well as what I've seen prove successful for my fellow students, working through examples in an interactive manner has always been helpful. I'm a big proponent of visual learning, using diagrams, and writing out everything involved in the learning and thought process. I also emphasize the importance of doing multiple practice problems, making errors, and actively identifying and correcting said errors. Most importantly, however, I'm open to understanding and adjusting my tutoring methods to what works best for each student!
As a student myself, I understand that learning certain subjects (especially if you feel you may not like them!) can be a challenge.
