I recently graduated with my Master of Arts in Clinical Counseling from Point Loma Nazarene University after earning my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from National University. Throughout both programs, I developed a strong understanding of psychology, research methods, APA formatting, academic writing, and evidence based practices. I have always loved learning, but I find even more joy in helping others realize they are capable of understanding material that once felt overwhelming.
As someone with ADHD myself, I understand that learning looks different for everyone and sometimes all it takes is finding an approach that works for the way your brain learns. My teaching experience has come through working one on one with adolescents, college students, and adults in several different settings. Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a driving instructor where I learned how important patience, flexibility, and encouragement are when helping someone develop a new skill. During graduate school, I provided counseling services to college students and regularly taught psychological concepts, study strategies, and executive functioning skills such as organization, time management, prioritization, and reducing procrastination. These experiences taught me how to adapt my approach to each individual instead of expecting everyone to learn the same way.
My goal as a tutor is to create a space where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes because that is often where the best learning happens. I enjoy helping students connect what they are learning to the values and goals that matter most to them because I believe people are more motivated when they understand why something is important. Whether we are working through psychology concepts, APA formatting, research papers, study skills, or executive functioning, my hope is that you leave each session with more confidence in yourself and a better understanding of the material.
