Hello, I'm Allyson! I am an undergraduate at the University of California San Diego, studying Molecular and Cell Biology. I have always enjoyed my biology and chemistry courses and I hope to share my joy for these subjects with others.
I have experience working with college students, high school students, and middle school students, teaching General Chemistry, Biology, Genetics, coding in R, and math. I have worked as a teaching assistant to biology faculty at UCSD, where I utilized various methods to assess understanding and work through questions together. I look through provided materials before sessions and build my sessions around this material and the questions a student has. I also have experience creating question sets and materials for students to apply their knowledge. My previous experiences have been volunteer work in small group and one-on-one settings.
I have also coached Science Olympiad for students at local middle schools. As a coach, I was responsible for transforming relevant knowledge for the event into deliverable presentations for my students. This included making slideshows and incorporating practice and application questions. I was also involved in making note sheets for students to use in their events, which is a useful study strategy and encourages connecting concepts. I look to apply these same methods in my sessions to ensure that students understand what they are learning and have an opportunity to apply concepts.
Feel free to reach out with questions or to schedule a session!
