In regards to academic teaching roles, I served as an Instructional Assistant for a Cellular Neurobiology course at UCSD during my last year as an undergraduate. My responsibilities included holding weekly office hours, holding pre-exam review sessions, and fielding student questions during discussions and exams. From breaking difficult concepts down to identifying gaps in students’ knowledges, it is through this position that I practiced and refined my teaching abilities. My approach emphasizes understanding core scientific principles, developing critical reasoning skills, and creating efficient study plans tailored to each student’s learning style. I am also a big believer in “learning by doing,” so I leave ample time for practice problems at the end of each session.
I thoroughly understand that, in a time where getting into college and medical school is more challenging than ever, a reliable mentor becomes that much more valuable.
