Hi, my name is Dr. Bob. I received a B.S. in chemistry (Summa Cum Laude) and a Ph.D. in organic chemistry. I’ve spent over a quarter century teaching this amazing subject to undergraduate students both in classroom settings as well as individually at various academic institutions. I have received several awards recognizing my excellence in teaching. The awards came not only from the institutions but also from graduating students who wished to acknowledge the value of their learning experiences from my classes. The students I have taught were generally in their second year of college and many had their sights set on professional schools in the medical field. I was able to guide them through the topic of organic chemistry and to help them to develop their thinking and reasoning skills which they would later apply to their career of choice.
I have years of experience tutoring individual or small groups of students. This has been done in person or, quite often, online. My approach to tutoring is to use the Socratic method which ensures that students demonstrate their understanding of each important concept before moving on to the next. This teaching method minimizes the need for brute memorization which just does not work with a subject such as organic chemistry.
I firmly believe that organic chemistry is not an impossibly difficult subject but that it is often taught in a way that makes it unnecessarily confusing. Because of this, I have spent my career developing methods to make O-Chem understandable and even enjoyable and am passionate to continue to help students succeed in learning this subject. For many, O-Chem is a necessary evil in their academic journey but it does not have to be scary! Let me show you how to understand and learn the topic in an organized and straightforward way.
