Hi! I’m Diya and I recently graduated magna cum laude from UCSD with a bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics. This fall, I will be beginning my Master’s in Computer Science at UCLA.
At UCSD, I worked as a Math Workshop Facilitator and Tutor for three years and have tutored Pre-calc, Calc, Linear Algebra, and Graph Theory. In my role, I have led workshops of about 20 students and have also conducted one-on-one tutoring sessions. My workshops have been widely successful on-campus, drawing in a waitlist of over 40 students in peak quarters. I have also consistently received exemplary Tutor Evaluations from both students and supervisors, which highlight my ability to explain concepts clearly and guide discussions effectively. I truly enjoy teaching and am thrilled to continue my journey as a tutor on Wyzant.
My love for mathematics stems from my passion for problem-solving and applying logic. As an educator, my goal is to impart the joy of problem-solving to my students and help them overcome any fear they harbor towards the subject. My teaching philosophy is simple: understand the intuition behind a concept and reinforce this understanding with practice problems. Following intuition allows students to see the “why” behind mathematical techniques and ideas, which in-turn helps them write solutions independently without heavily relying on complex formulas and memorization. Next, we will transition to solving a variety of practice problems. Content-specific practice drills help students gain familiarity with different question formats and learn efficient timing strategies. As the tutor, I prepare a thorough lesson plan for every session, including diagrams, examples, and analogies to explain any topics and supporting practice questions. Lastly, I make it a priority to give students time during each session to discuss any questions or doubts they’ve encountered during their studies.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like to schedule your first lesson. Happy learning!
