Bio

Hello there! My name is Jonathan (you can call me Jon), and I'm a math nerd at heart who's been lucky enough to turn my passion into helping others. I recently graduated with top honors (Summa Cum Laude!) in Mathematics from San Diego State University, where I focused on education. What drives me to teach is finding creative ways to make complicated math topics easier to understand; using visuals, real-world examples, or tools like Desmos.

Over the past 4 years, I've worked with everyone from middle schoolers to college students, both one-on-one and in small groups. I loved helping 6th and 7th graders build their confidence in math classes and achieve those "aha" moments when a topic suddenly clicks. At my community college, I tutored students online and in person, tailoring each session to their math needs. Some needed structured, step-by-step guidance, while others just needed a confidence boost. I always start by listening to students, then work alongside them.

To me, math isn't just formulas and equations, but a language that helps us understand the world. Seeing students realize they're capable of understanding math is why I tutor. Math can be intimidating, but I believe anyone can master it with the right support!

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I bring years of experience helping students build a strong foundation in Algebra 1 through clear explanations, patient guidance, and logical reasoning strategies. My approach focuses on conceptual understanding over rote memorization, encouraging students to think critically about math. In every session, I aim to relate topics like linear equations, inequalities, and functions to real-world applications that are relatable to learners. Above all, I strive to ensure each student leaves the session feeling more confident, capable, and ready to tackle new challenges in math.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

For many years, I’ve helped students understand Algebra 2 by breaking down complex concepts like quadratics, polynomials, and exponential functions into clear, step-by-step lessons. I use real-life examples, visuals, and logical reasoning to help students grasp not just how to solve problems, but why the methods work. My goal in every session is to build confidence and help students feel ready to tackle problems on their own. Whether someone needs support with homework, test prep, or simply wants to improve their math skills, I’m here to guide them.
Calculus

Calculus

Calculus has always been one of my favorite subjects because it helps explain how things move, grow, and change in everyday life. I started tutoring calculus after realizing how much I enjoy helping others understand key ideas like limits, derivatives, and integrals. I use visuals, real-life examples, and logical reasoning to make tough concepts easier to understand for the student. Whether a student is just starting out or getting ready for a big test, I’m here to help them feel confident and ready to succeed.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I love helping students build confidence in Prealgebra because it’s where so many key math skills begin. Things like fractions, decimals, ratios, and basic equations are the building blocks for everything that comes next. I’ve spent over four years tutoring learners of all ages, and I’ve seen how a strong foundation here can make higher-level math feel less intimidating and more achievable. With a degree in Applied Mathematics with honors, I focus on making these early concepts click in ways that feel intuitive and empowering.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I specialize in helping students build a strong foundation in Precalculus. With over four years of tutoring experience, I’ve helped learners and students through topics like functions, trigonometry, and matrices using different tools such as visual models, interactive tools, and step-by-step reasoning. My background in Applied Mathematics helps me explain complex ideas clearly and adapt my teaching style so that it fits with every students learning level. Whether you're preparing for calculus or you're building up your math confidence, I make sure that I tailor each session to meet your goals.
