Hello! I'm Dr Paul, and I've been teaching and tutoring English for over thirty years. In fact, it was my main job as an English major during college. After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin with a BA in English and Psychology, I moved to Seoul, Korea for two years where I taught English and writing to K-12 students and adults. I returned to Austin to work on my master’s and doctoral degrees at UT Austin.
During my first two years there, I worked as a writing tutor in the writing center and taught English literature to first-year students.
Towards the end of my doctoral studies, I worked as an Instructor at UT Austin, teaching my own class that I designed. I also tutored high school students in writing and English literature during the summers. In 2003, I moved to South Bend, IN where I tutored Korean American middle school and high school students one-on-one, while assisting seminarians at Notre Dame with revising their sermons. I also taught first-year composition to students at Notre Dame.
In 2006, I moved to San Diego, CA to begin my tenure-track job as an Assistant Professor at San Diego State University, where I taught Rhetoric and Writing Studies courses to undergraduate and graduate students until 2020. While teaching at SDSU I won Pi Beta Phi's “Professor of the Year” award three times and the Teaching Excellence Award. During the summers, I also continued tutoring Korean American students one-on-one. In 2023, I began teaching first-year writing to students at Point Loma Nazarene University (where I currently teach). Teaching and mentoring have always been passions of mine, and I'm excited to help you achieve your academic and personal goals!
