My Bachelor’s degree from UCSD includes a writing distinction, and I hold a TESOL teaching certificate to work with non-native English speakers. I began my writing journey at UCSD's writing program while a new program director was training. This was a rare chance to receive tailored feedback on the same writing pieces from two passionate writing directors simultaneously. Their approaches were so different, and from the contrast in their styles, I learned that the most essential element of a writing education is cultivating a safe space to return to every time you write.
After a year of training, I was selected as one of two students to teach in the UCSD writing studio. I spent my first two teaching years there gaining one-on-one experience, followed by several years teaching online to students from universities across the US, China, and Germany. In total, I have spent nearly 10 years helping university-level students of all ages in a one-on-one setting.
I believe writing is essential to achieving nearly any goal. My aim is to work with you for a while, but ultimately, I want you to feel so confident in your writing that you no longer need my help. I want writing to become a strength every time you sit down to write.
I practice active learning through showing, not telling. This approach shaped my writing education, and I have seen it empower students time and again. In our online lessons, we will review your essays on the whiteboard, creating a non-judgmental space for discussion.
Together, we will follow a consistent process. Through repetition, you will begin to recognize your patterns—your strengths, areas for growth, and personal voice. I will guide you with the right questions and feedback to help you deepen your relationship with your writing.
I am easy to reach and always provide quick responses during my contact hours. Please feel free to get in touch!
