With over 30 years of experience as a credentialed teacher in both general and special education, I specialize in supporting neurodivergent learners, including students on the autism spectrum, those with dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning differences. I have dedicated my career to helping students who think and learn differently access instruction that is structured, explicit, and responsive to their individual needs.

As a special education teacher and intervention specialist, I have worked with students in K–8 public, private, and specialized school settings, as well as in one-on-one tutoring and homeschool environments. Many of the families I support come to me after years of frustration, when their child has not received instruction aligned with how they learn. My role is often to bridge that gap by providing individualized, evidence-based teaching that leads to real progress.

A core part of my work includes structured literacy instruction for students with reading and writing challenges, including dyslexia. I am highly trained in the Wilson Reading System, an Orton-Gillingham–based approach that builds foundational skills in phonics, decoding, fluency, spelling, and comprehension. I adapt this instruction for students with diverse learning profiles, including those who benefit from visual supports, predictable routines, and multisensory engagement.

I am also a credentialed math teacher with experience supporting K–6 learners. I focus on building number sense, strengthening foundational skills, and helping students develop confidence with computation through clear, step-by-step instruction.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Fordham University, a master’s degree in education from Seton Hall University, and a master’s degree in special education from UC San Diego. I provide not only direct instruction, but also guidance and perspective to help families navigate next steps and support their children effectively.

Dyslexia

Dyslexia

I am a credentialed Master’s-level special education teacher and dyslexia specialist with over 30 years of experience teaching K–8 students to crack the reading code. I’ve taught hundreds of students to decode and read fluently using the Wilson Reading System, grounded in Orton-Gillingham principles. I blend structured literacy instruction with leveled reading passages to strengthen decoding while building comprehension. I work with students with dyslexia, ADHD, autism, and language-based learning differences. Parents often come to me when they are seeking a highly trained specialist who provides clear, structured, and individualized reading instruction that truly works.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a credentialed teacher with over 30 years of experience successfully teaching elementary students and building strong academic foundations. As a reading intervention specialist, I use research-based strategies to strengthen decoding, fluency, and comprehension skills, tailoring instruction to fit each child’s unique learning needs. I specialize in the Wilson Reading System, a structured literacy program designed to support students struggling with phonics, dyslexia, and other decoding challenges. My goal is not just to teach children how to read but to build their confidence and ensure real success in their learning. In writing, I guide students in organizing their thoughts, developing sentence structure, and becoming fluent, expressive writers. Additionally, I provide math instruction that strengthens number concepts and operations, ensuring students develop the skills to approach math with confidence. With a results-driven approach, warmth, and patience, I create a supportive learning environment where every child can thrive and succeed.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

With over 30 years of experience as a credentialed K-6 teacher, I’ve worked with a wide range of elementary students, helping them build confidence and proficiency in math. I specialize in developing number sense, strengthening core math concepts, and guiding students through number operations with clarity and ease. My approach focuses on breaking down complex ideas into simple, manageable steps, ensuring students not only improve their computation skills but also gain a deeper understanding of how numbers work. With patience and a clear, structured approach, I make math less intimidating and more accessible for every learner.
Homeschool

Homeschool

With over 30 years of experience as a credentialed teacher in general and special education, I specialize in supporting students with dyslexia, autism, ADHD, and other learning differences. Families come to me when they are seeking a highly trained educator who understands how to teach struggling learners with clarity, compassion, and precision. I am trained in research-based, multisensory approaches aligned with structured literacy and the Science of Reading, including Orton-Gillingham–informed instruction. My approach is calm, predictable, and strengths-based. I design lessons that incorporate clear routines, visual supports, sensory accommodations, and individualized strategies so students feel safe, understood, and capable. I partner closely with families to create learning plans that help students build skills, confidence, and lasting success.
Phonics

Phonics

I have 30 years of experience as a credentialed teacher, specializing in phonics instruction for students at all levels. For young learners, I build strong foundational skills by teaching letter-sound relationships, blending, and decoding strategies to develop confident early readers. For 3rd and 4th graders, I help bridge the gap between basic decoding and fluent reading by guiding them through multisyllabic words, prefixes, and suffixes while strengthening comprehension. For older elementary students who need to fill in gaps, I provide targeted instruction to reinforce essential phonics skills, improve fluency, and build the confidence needed for independent reading success. Phonics is a critical foundation for reading, and when these skills aren’t solidified, students can struggle with comprehension and overall academic performance. By identifying and addressing gaps, I help students develop the skills necessary to become fluent, successful readers.

I also specialize in supporting students who struggle with phonics and decoding, including those with dyslexia and other reading challenges. Special Needs

Special Needs

With two master's degrees—one in special education and one in education—I specialize in working with children who have language-based reading disorders like dyslexia, as well as those with ASD and ADHD. For over 30 years, I've partnered with families to create customized learning experiences that support each child’s unique needs, both in one-on-one tutoring and within the school setting. I provide strong support to families navigating questions about accommodations and next steps, helping them understand their child's needs and feel empowered to make informed decisions. I understand how overwhelming it can be, and I’m here to guide you through the process with care and expertise
Spelling

Spelling

With over 30 years of experience as a credentialed teacher specializing in early elementary literacy, I have extensive experience supporting students with spelling and writing needs, adapting my approach to meet their unique learning styles. For students in 2nd grade and above, I begin by conducting a spelling inventory assessment to identify each student's specific spelling needs. From there, I focus on spelling first single words and then multisyllabic words, breaking them down one syllable at a time, identifying vowels, prefixes, and suffixes, and reinforcing these patterns through structured practice. I extend these skills into written expression, guiding students to develop short, constructed responses to prompts, which helps them apply new spelling words in meaningful ways. For younger spellers, I teach foundational skills like identifying short and long vowels and blending these sounds into written form. I help students transfer these early spelling skills into sentences and short passages, building confidence as they apply their knowledge to more complex writing tasks.
Writing

Writing

With over 30 years of experience as a credentialed teacher, I specialize in providing targeted writing instruction for students in grades K-6. As a writing intervention specialist, I’ve worked with students at every developmental level, from emergent writers building foundational skills like letter formation, sentence structure, and grammar, to elementary students refining paragraph structure and expanding vocabulary. For upper elementary writers, I focus on guiding students through the process of crafting multi-paragraph essays, incorporating grade-level vocabulary and ideas while strengthening their ability to organize and express their thoughts clearly. My approach is personalized and tailored to each student’s unique needs, helping them build confidence and strong writing skills at every stage of their academic journey.

Great teacher and engaging class!

We started tutoring with Ms. Allison offline. After getting used to the routine, we added online sessions as well. Ms. Allison has done a great job keeping both sessions engaging, using lots of tools and games for a 5.5 year old boy. My son loves her classes, and I’ve seen great improvement in his phonics.

Incredibly effective and warm!

We've only had one session with Allison but my daughter left feeling confident and excited to learn. She's been practicing reading words, which she never had confidence before. She was also incredibly warm and kind -- perfect for my kindergartner!
