Hello, I am Maya! I am currently a student at the University of California San Diego, majoring in General Biology and minoring in Political Science. I graduated high school as a National Honor Society (NHS) member with magna cum laude standing. Throughout my high school years I scored: A 5 on AP English Literature and Composition and AP United States Government and Politics, also scoring a 4 on the following AP exams: Spanish Literature and Culture and Spanish Language and Culture. Writing and literature overall have always been of importance to me. I find value in academic merit and will always encourage students to keep learning. I strive to accommodate students' needs and create a safe place for them to learn in, something which I wish I had growing up.
During my high school years, I’ve mentored children in different grades and have helped them improve their vocabulary and learning habits. When working with elementary students, I read one-on-one with them and make use of systematic phonics which help them not only memorize words but also learn the sounds created by them. As previously mentioned, I have received 4/5s on AP exams, and would be more than willing to help students practice and learn the ways which helped me, to accommodate them. I will provide and go over practices, which will help the student learn the material, and then give examples which the student can try on their own and return to me for feedback. As someone who just recently graduated from high school, I know how tricky school can be when not given the tailored education one needs and because of that, I will absolutely do my best to guarantee a student's success in whatever endeavors they choose to pursue.
