I love science and mathematics and hope to cultivate this same love in my students. As their enthusiasm grows, so too will their performance. I want my students to develop confidence in their own minds, their own understanding of the world around them and their own ability to think about problems and solve them. Difficult jargon and complicated language often stand in the way of learning so I strive to explain things as simply as possible. Good communication is bidirectional. If a student is struggling with something, I listen with an open mind to pinpoint exactly where the problems lie. The objective is for my students to think and communicate their thoughts clearly and develop a concrete understanding of their subject matter.

I hold a PhD in Cell Biology from UCSF and a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Iowa. In addition to advanced Biochemistry and Cell Biology coursework, I have also received A grades in Calculus (including multivariable), Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Calculus-based Physics, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Physical Chemistry.

I have tutored middle school students in algebra and physics. I have also taught biology, genetics, biochemistry and cell biology to high school students individually and in small groups. I was a teaching assistant for a graduate-level Biochemistry course at UCSF (for which I won a teaching award) as well as an undergraduate Anatomy course.

I have a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from the University of Iowa and a PhD in Cell Biology from UCSF. I have published three manuscripts in the subject of physical chemistry. I received A or A+ grades in the following courses: General Chemistry 1/2/Lab Organic Chemistry 1/2/Lab Physical Chemistry 1/2 Biochemistry 1/2/Lab I also won a teaching award for my performance as TA for the introductory grad-level biochemistry course at UCSF.
Genetics

Genetics

My post-doctoral studies (seven years) were in the field of genetics, more specifically the developmental genetics underlying heart formation in zebrafish embryos. As a graduate student, I took a comprehensive genetics course which went in depth about the genetic tools available in a wide range of model organisms. I also excelled in multiple genetics classes as an undergraduate student.
