Hello there! I'm Ms. Paula and I enjoy helping students reach their academic goals. I completed my undergraduate studies and graduated from University of California San Diego. Since then, I've explored various career paths working as a nurse, social worker, behavior interventionist and as well as a pet caretaker. Over the years of working and going to school, I've learned that I find fulfillment in teaching and helping others.

While taking an anatomy class, I took the initiative to create multiple full mock exams for my whole class to help with our studies and pass our tests. I set up a Facebook group for our class so we can share notes and set up study groups. I was the vice president of the Filipino club, the co-vice president of the American Medical Student Association, was actively involved in the peer mentorship program helping guide academically struggling 6th graders and also participated in the Kuya-Ate Mentorship Program.

Currently, I have been working at Kumon as an assistant instructor for almost 2 years. Kumon is a tutoring center, focused on helping students achieve their academic best by applying the Kumon method. I teach and tutor both math and English subjects from K to 6th grade. One of the main goals of Kumon is to help the student become an independent learner and thinker. We instill confidence in their ability to learn and understand the subject through daily practice, positive encouragement/rewards, open communication with parents and allowing the student to grow at their own pace. We measure progress by recording data, grading and periodic testing. Many of our students at work are well beyond their grade level and I take pride in seeing them progress everyday.
