Hi students! I am new to Wyzant, but not new to teaching. I am a friendly, motivated and energetic individual that strives to give students more than effective help in understanding various concepts in science.
I graduated from UC San Diego in 2021 with a B.S. in Molecular and Cell Biology, with Department Honors Distinction. I obtained this distinction by completing a Senior Honors Thesis while I was working as a Lab Assistant in an immunology laboratory at UCSD. Also during my senior year, I worked as a Teaching Assistant for upper-division genetics, where I would teach a section of around 30 students a lecture 1 hour/week and conduct office hours 2hours/week. Additionally, I would create detailed lesson plans, supplemental material, practice problems, quizzes, and grade assignments.
Teaching was extremely rewarding for me during my time at UCSD, and currently I am now working at a Life Science Research and Teaching Institute as a Research Scientist and Instructor. There, I teach pre-college students in-depth biological concepts related to research, where they take ownership of their final projects and presentations in student groups. These courses are advanced for the pre-college level, and regardless of students’ backgrounds, I consistently find different ways to approach teaching concepts and adapt my lessons to whatever students need most.
This is compatible with my philosophy that in order to become a great teacher, you must accept that you are a lifelong learner. I truly hope that I can help you succeed in your classes!
