I’ve been tutoring for over 10 years. My most recent experience includes serving as a senior tutor at a learning center in Berkeley CA, where I worked with students from kindergarten through 12th grade primarily in math, physics, reading, writing, SAT, and ACT. I tutor all levels of math and English.
My tutoring approach is to combine academic support with guidance in executive functioning. The classroom often has a one-size-fits-all approach. As a student pursuing tutoring, you should receive individualized instruction that's tailored to your needs. Some of us simply need tutoring on content and if that’s you we can get right to the content. In other cases, a student may also need help planning and organizing their academic life as well as advocating for themselves with their teachers on grades or missed assignments. I’m here to help with that as well. Being organized, planning work, and communicating effectively are essential to academic success.
At our learning center, I worked with several students who have autism spectrum disorder. I know the importance of patience, clarity, and calm in instruction.
I have a BS in Civil Engineering from UC Berkeley. In college, I was part of the mentorship group BEAM (Berkeley Engineers and Mentors). We volunteered at local middle schools to tutor students in math and science. Outside of tutoring, I’ve worked as a Project Engineer for large scale construction and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. In my down time, I like to cook up new dishes and swim in the ocean.
For me, tutoring isn’t just about teaching academics – it’s about helping you develop skills you can carry with you in your life. Hope to work with you soon!
