Greetings, I am Brianá. I received my BAAS in Theatre Arts: Entertainment Management at San Diego State University. My educational career comprises of challenging math courses and professors, which motivated me to help make math relatable to those who may have a disdain for math by reconnecting and to re-engage them.
At San Diego City College, I was trained as a tutor in 2017 and I have tutored Arithmetic, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Applied Calculus (Business Calc), and Elementary Statistics. I gained hands-on experience and became a Senior collegiate tutor at the Math Center working one-on-one with students, providing additional learning support, and supporting Math Jams collaborative and inclusive tutoring services, which prepped students for midterms and finals. As a Supplemental Instructor, I worked with math professors and 50+ students within the classroom, and I held weekly specialized math workshops with 20+ students focusing on specific math topics. As a high school math tutor and mentor for Upward Bound students via SDCC, I supported 9th-12th grade students with preparing for AP and higher math, ACT/SAT standardized testing, and postsecondary education. At SDSU via Pathways Pre-College Institute and America Counts programs, I tutored and prepped for education certification through service learning at the local K-12 grade schools.
My calming tutoring approach meets the student in their learning path, guides the student through the fundamentals, and allows the student to understand math tailored to their relatable point of view. I continue to uplift and inspire students about math, its applications, and utilize math and minimize “Math Anxiety”. I enjoy tutoring the most when the student has moments of clarity and their confidence is rebuilt!
