I recently graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. in Plant Science, concentrating in Plant Genetics, with a minor in Philosophy. Before Cornell, I completed my Associate's degree at Cañada College in the San Mateo Community College District, gaining admission to Cornell, UC Berkeley, and UC Davis. Along the way, I built a research background through Cañada's Honors Transfer Program, research internships at Stanford, and research at Cornell. Having gone through the transfer process myself and gained admission to several highly selective universities, I bring firsthand understanding of what that path requires, not just theoretical advice.
My teaching background spans eight years as a private clarinet instructor and two years as a Taekwondo and Hapkido instructor. At Cañada College's Learning Center, I worked primarily as an application materials reviewer, helping students draft and refine personal statements and transfer essays, while also tutoring English, Biology, and Philosophy. I focused on helping students identify and express the values and motivations behind pursuing higher education, authentic, specific reasoning universities actively select for, rather than generic statements of interest, and on tightening essays: sharpening structure and elevating tone to read as polished and professional without losing the student's voice.
Since then, I have continued supporting students and families with application materials: proofreading personal statements and supplemental essays, advising on the transfer process specifically, reviewing CVs, and helping with scholarship essays. I've also talked with high school students and parents about choosing between a four-year university and community college, drawing on my own experience. I've worked with high schoolers, community college students of all ages, and their families, tailoring my approach to whether a student is writing a first college essay or navigating a transfer application.
