Most recently, I taught at Stanford University through their Continuing Studies program.

I like to have my students complete my online Digital Skills Assessment, which helps me see your strengths and challenges and helps me plan to make the most efficient use of our time together.

I've created a number of handouts and Powerpoint demonstrations, which I'm continually updating, to offer you the best instruction possible.

I've worked with a variety of ages and abilities - I even taught photography at a camp for the blind! I conduct evaluations in all my classes (although not required at most places where I teach), so I can continue to improve my teaching.

Photography instruction can either take place at my studio, your place, or remotely over the Internet. I look forward to helping you take your photography to the next level!

I teach Adobe Lightroom at a variety of colleges and universities, camera stores, and other community venues.

Photography

I began photographing my dog when I was 9 with a Kodak Brownie camera. From there, I graduated, with my dad’s instruction, to a Kodak Retina I (c. 1939), a light meter, and a darkroom. My experience is varied from shooting portraits, exploring the intimate world of macro photography, to teaching pinhole camera construction at a camp for the blind. My photographs have either won or placed in almost every photographic competition I’ve entered including most winning “Best of Show” at the Marin County Fair. My work has been utilized by colleges, a literary magazine, non-profit service organizations, corporations. Images from my travels to to Africa were the basis of an interactive multi-media CD-ROM used to promote an African vacation for an employee sales incentive reward program. And I still like taking pictures of my dog.

great teacher!

Reid helped me to set up and organize photos in the Lightroom and we’re working on editing photos. I’m very happy I started working with Reid.

Lightroom Tutorial

I can't state enough how enjoyable and productive my Lightroom tutorial went with Reid. He responded promptly to inquires and provided helpful study materials in advance of our session. He showed up on time and during our two hour session demonstrated a thorough understanding of all aspects of Lightroom. He also offered numerous suggestions on improving my catalog setup as well as using some of the newer processing tools in Lightroom. Again, I very highly recommend Reid.

Great experience!

I had issues with organization within my Lightroom. Reid help me put all of my work into one place making my future workflow so much easier. He also help me locate raw files that I could not find for months due to my poor organization. I can highly recommend him to learn more about this software and to better your practice and work flow within Lightroom 👍🏽

Easy to work with and patient!

Reid and I have been working through reorganization and workflow in LR and he has been amazing! It would have taken me years to accumulate the progress we achieved in a few hours. I would definitely recommend him to other students.

Working with Reid

Thanks to Reid for helping me to reorganize my messy files today. During the process, he cleared up much of my confusion and answered all my questions, mainly about importing and filing my images. Reid is very knowledgeable about computer operation systems and Lightroom, and worked out a new storage plan for my files and located my images in no time. One thing I really appreciate is Reid’s preparation work before we actually met up on line. He has a thorough questionnaire designed for his students to get a rough assessment of their level and needs. We also exchanged quite a few messages regarding expectations for our meeting. Therefore when we actually started the session, there was no time lost, we got right to the point. Reid has been very patient with me, we actually ran over an extra hour, and I do appreciate it. His explanations are clear and right to the point. He is very easy and pleasant to work with! Reid is also very prompt at replying messages, great communication! I am looking forward to working with him in another session next week.

Organized!

My LR Classic's stored images were all over the place with hundreds of duplicates distributed on a desktop hard drive and external drives. So over nearly two hours of intense work, Reid got it all organized and the many dupes identified. In the process I also learned something about how LR Classic organizes its library. Thorough, willing to explain and re-explain, and effective.
