Most recently, I taught at Stanford University through their Continuing Studies program.

I like to have my students complete my online Digital Skills Assessment, which helps me see your strengths and challenges and helps me plan to make the most efficient use of our time together.

I've created a number of handouts and Powerpoint demonstrations, which I'm continually updating, to offer you the best instruction possible.

I've worked with a variety of ages and abilities - I even taught photography at a camp for the blind! I conduct evaluations in all my classes (although not required at most places where I teach), so I can continue to improve my teaching.

Photography instruction can either take place at my studio, your place, or remotely over the Internet. I look forward to helping you take your photography to the next level!

I began photographing my dog when I was 9 with a Kodak Brownie camera. From there, I graduated, with my dad’s instruction, to a Kodak Retina I (c. 1939), a light meter, and a darkroom. My experience is varied from shooting portraits, exploring the intimate world of macro photography, to teaching pinhole camera construction at a camp for the blind. My photographs have either won or placed in almost every photographic competition I’ve entered including most winning “Best of Show” at the Marin County Fair. My work has been utilized by colleges, a literary magazine, non-profit service organizations, corporations. Images from my travels to to Africa were the basis of an interactive multi-media CD-ROM used to promote an African vacation for an employee sales incentive reward program. And I still like taking pictures of my dog.

Setting up and an introduction toLightroom Classic

I was very pleased with my time with Reid. I had been quite upset with trying to set up Lightroom Classic and working with another version of Lightroom for a couple of years. Working with Adobe had not gotten me very far. Reid set up the system, got my pictures organized the way I wanted them, and went through the menu of preferences explaining what he was doing as he choose the options. He has a depth of experience in photography, photography editing and computers which he put to good use on my project. He also gave me a 21 page document covering the basics of Lightroom Classic which looks very useful. Yes- my expectations were definitely exceeded. I am looking forward to future lessons.

Reid is the best Tutor and much more...

Reid Thaler is the BEST LR tutor…if you are thinking about getting professional help to enhance your photography, Reid is the one!!! Reid’s knowledge and patient teaching has helped me organize my LR library, learn new ways to use the editing tools creatively, build a 273 image beautiful memorial slide show for my Mother’s life and offer tips on professional printing using LR printing function with my Epson 3880 color printer…let me take a breath here. He also has re ignited my passion and interest in shooting in general, sold 2 of my Nikon lenses I no longer use and find best options for me to purchase a upgrade to a more professional camera body. Reid goes way beyond LR if you want to be inspired in your interest and passion for photography….Robert F

An Articulate, Knowledgeable Instructor

Photography/editing is strictly a serious hobby for me. I am less than an amateur with photography and Lightroom software and technically challenged. Although I've been working with LR for years and longer taking photos, I never took the time to learn from the experts to maximize my interest. Since retiring I made a commitment to become more proficient and efficient with both. I made an outline of topics before starting my session with Reid, number one was how the cloud storage (iCloud, Adobe CC) works and what I really needed. However, Reid in short order directed my thinking to workflow and in that process he explained and answered many of my questions in an understandable way. I also learned so many more features of LR and am excited about practicing and using LR more productively. I couldn't have asked for a more successful session and look forward to more, nor could I ask for a better instructor; very patient, articulate, considerate, pleasant and above all knowledgeable.

Excellent with Adobe Lightroom Classic and computer systems

Reid solved all of my problems quickly. This included fixing mistakes made by Apple technicians in file transfers to my new computer. We had to work together to fix and organize the files. He works well in a collaborative basis.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor.

Reid is an excellent teacher. My first lesson in Light Room was amazing. I only wished I had recorded it, I’m sure I could listen to it a dozen times and learn something new each time.

Amazingly Patient and the most knowledgeable tutor

Reid was so professional in the way he walked me through Adobe Lightroom, making sure I had the latest version, helping me with cataloging and importing, deleting duplicates, and touching up photos. He is so calm with his approach and even while waiting for a upload of photos was able to go on and help me with my email preferences! I have set up another appointment already with this wonderful tutor.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor.

He helped me edit photos using Lightroom. He also showed me how to manage my LR photos on my cell phone. He helped me understand where editing is needed and where the the photo is fine without and what kind of editing is needed.

Lightroom tutorial

Reid is an excellent tutor. He is very detailed and organized. He answered all questions and I was given a handout at the end of my first session. He also explained in detail how to use my mobile devices with Lightroom.
