Hi, I'm Caroline! I am a Neuroscientist with over 10 years of teaching, mentoring, and tutoring experience. I received my BSc in Biopsychology from UCSB in 2014 and my PhD in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (also from UCSB) in 2022. I have experience working with students of all ages, but specialize in teaching high school and undergraduate students in the life sciences. Having taught over 20 courses during my graduate training, I have crafted a Teaching Philosophy built on a neuroscientific understanding of how the brain works - how we learn and retain information - as well as building intrinsic motivation and confidence in my students.

My teaching specialties are Chemistry, Biology, Genetics, Neuroscience, and Psychology.

Approved Subjects

Genetics

Genetics

I earned my doctorate in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2022. For my dissertation, I employed genetic tools to investigate the molecular biology of a novel sensory pathway in nematodes. I have practical knowledge of cloning, genetic screening, viral vectors, and other techniques through my graduate and postdoctoral work. I have also developed and taught courses on genetics and utilizing genetic tools to study the brain.
Neuroscience

Neuroscience

I am a trained neuroscientist with a PhD in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. For my dissertation, I employed genetic techniques to study a novel behavior and sensory pathway in the model organism C. elegans. As a Postdoctoral Researcher at the UCSF, I investigated Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases. I have taught several neuroscience and molecular biology courses during my training, was nominated for an excellence in teaching award, and developed my own undergraduate-level neuroscience course for high school summer students while at UCSB.
