Hello! My name is Damien Bowen, and I am a graduate from UC Davis with a bachelor’s in physics with a minor in math. I have tutored an incredible variety of clients for almost a decade now — I’ve worked with:
- Middle schoolers on arithmetic and multiplication
- ESL learners on English, math & physics
- High schoolers & early college students in a wide variety of subjects and ages (from 16 to 50) on calculus, trigonometry, and algebra
I’ve also worked on lesson plans and given lectures at community college & done presentations at research events. I bring this pre-planned approach with me when I tutor: I ask for subjects and concepts and what exactly we’ll be working on for the first session. From there, I ask & provide my opinion on what sort of help would be most beneficial, i.e. assistance with assignments or a more structured, planned review. To this end, I’ve even written additional homework or practice problems for some students. I always strive to meet the student where they are and understand what sort of help they find most beneficial.

Even if your availability doesn’t exactly line up with what I have listed on Wyzant, please feel free to reach out. I am also more than willing to negotiate my prices for tutoring. I firmly believe that educational assistance should not only be available to those who can afford it, and will happily lower rates.

Upon request, I am also available to tutor a list of more advanced topics that are not present in the Wyzant “subject” category, and can provide qualification for these subjects upon request. The starting rate for these is $75/hr, since they require more review & preparation:
- quantum algorithms, quantum simulations
- coding in python, C, julia
- general relativity
- quantum field theory
- select advanced modern physics research topics
- real & complex analysis, topology, group theory
