I earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana State University in the field of mathematics education, graduating with a 4.00 GPA. Since graduating, I have worked with students in several meaningful ways. As a classroom math teacher, a math tutor, a learning center instructor and director, and a high school adviser, I have a well-rounded amount of experience working with young people, especially teaching mathematics. I have also spent most of my adult life working with young people outside the classroom as a youth sports coach and a youth minister. I believe that I have the ability not only to teach well, but also to motivate, instill confidence, and make learning fun.
I love to teach. I feel a tremendous amount of satisfaction when I help a student understand important concepts, build confidence, reach academic goals, and learn to enjoy the process of learning. I believe that there are three key qualities to being a great teacher. First, great teachers help make students feel comfortable and confident so that learning can take place. In short, great teachers make learning fun. Second, a great teacher is an expert in explaining complex concepts and skills in a way that students can fully understand them. Third, a great teacher is a strong motivator and encourager. I believe that I possess these three important qualities, and I use them well to help my students achieve academic success.
