I have 20 years of college teaching experience in 4 year private and public colleges, as well as in a community college setting. My PhD is in Political Science with concentrations in American and Comparative politics. I have published 2 books and numerous articles, mainly in the area of Women and Politics. I love working with students. I find it inspiring to see students develop a sense of themselves as learners, as intelligent people who have exciting ideas and insights to offer. I keep in touch with many of my students and love hearing about where they have headed after leaving my classroom.

My main area of research is women and politics. My most recent publication is Participation and Protest: Women and Politics in a Global World, published with Oxford University Press, 2014. It examines the impact that women have had on politics via revolutions, social movements, and institutional politics, as well as the impact that politics has had on women’s lives via state policy on issues such as family leave, equal pay, and sexual harassment. I have also authored and co-authored a number of articles published in refereed journals. One of them considers the impact of gender on incumbent safety in local elections in California. Currently I am beginning research on the impact of California’s term limits and campaign finance reform on local races. I theorize that there may be more competitive lower elections as these seats are now seen as more viable stepping stones to state office since state office seats open up more often.

I love teaching. I love Political Science. In sophomore year of high school I knew I wanted to major in Political Science. I have no idea exactly how I knew that, but I did. I never wavered and have ne
