I am a graduate of the University of California, Davis (B.S Mathematics '14) and a Math tutor for over a decade. My approach to tutoring is to help the student to let go of their old stories of being intimidated or "bad at math,"and instead, develop a gentle curiosity. We focus on concepts first. Once we have discussed a concept, then we can delve into calculations, applications, and connections with other concepts. My approach to tutoring is to help the student to let go of their old stories of being intimidated or "bad at math,"and instead, develop a gentle curiosity. We focus on concepts first. Once we have discussed a concept, then we can delve into calculations, applications, and connections with other concepts. My goal is to help students develop their intuitions in math, which will help them understand the larger picture of the subject, making future math (and science) classes more accessible.

ELEMENTARY (counting, patterns, money, adding and subtracting, multiplying and dividing, word problems, etc.) For my younger students (ages 5 to 9) I recommend meeting for only 30 to 45 minutes at time. Older and more mature students may go up to an hour. My goal as a tutor is to keep things fun while cementing fundamentals.

MIDDLE SCHOOL (Fundamentals, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry) Many students struggle to transition from the elementary format to the middle school format. A period of math can simultaneously be too long to keep a student engaged and too short to provide a student with a clear understanding of the day's lesson. In middle school, math classes are more rigorous and demanding than what students are used to. And the math knowledge and study skills acquired in middle school will help (or hurt) the student as he or she moves on through high school. My goals as a tutor are to help my students make sense of this new way of doing school and to lay the foundation for the years to come.

HIGH SCHOOL (Fundamentals, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus)* For some students, high school is the first time they have ever struggled with math. These students are not used to asking for help, but it is a crucial strategy for them to practice (especially if college-bound). For o

I was a learning assistant in a mixed 3rd and 4th grade class at an elementary school in Davis Joint Unified School District. I worked with individual students to improve their math and reading skills, as well as increase their personal responsibility and organization. I have also been a private tutor for a fifth grader (focusing on math) and a sixth grader (focusing on math and general study skills).

"Simply Outstanding!!"

This young lady is the exact kind of person that we were looking for to tutor my son. Miss Chelsie is an excellent teacher, she is well versed in the subject of mathematics and is extremely patient. She is genuinely invested in the progress of her student. She is very punctual and courteous and makes sure that the student gets it correct, but also makes sure that they understand how they got it correct with review techniques. Awesome!!!!

Very good with teenagers. Easy to relate to and can clearly communicate the subject matter.

Chelsie is very kind and easy to communicate with. Our child looks forward to her tutoring sessions and comes out of them feeling better prepared and with a clearer understanding of the subject matter.

My son has had a few tutors and Chelsie was the first one he said communicated with him the best and the clearest. He wanted more sessions with her and that's a first.

She explained his chapter and prepared him for the next day's quiz.

Awesome tutor!!!

Chelsie is an excellent tutor. She is always on time, patient and prepared. I explained my daughter's tutoring needs and Chelsie came up with a lesson plan that completely addressed all of her needs. She always returns my texts in a timely manner. I would highly recommend Chelsea, and have to others. It is absolutely money well spent!!!

Great math tutor

After one session, Chelsie was able to help my son understand how to do fractions. I will continue to use her in the future. She is an excellent tutor.

Great Tutor

Chelsie was punctual, she started asking questions and got right to the lesson. The information was easier to understand and there were notes that my nephew brought home with him. She was very professional and pleasant to work with. I especially appreciated her love for math and her willingness to share her knowledge.
