C++

The first time I wrote a program in C++ was back in 2006. Since then, it's always been my language of choice for my own programming needs. I have a lot of experience tutoring C++, and by far the subject that I tutor most frequently on Wyzant is C++. Most of the students that I help are taking a computer science course requiring programs written in C++. If that is the case for you, and if you are struggling to write a particular C++ program, just send me a copy of the program requirements and any code you've already written for it. I'll review the information and let you know if it's something I can help with!

I have quite a lot of experience tutoring calculus, primarily first and second semester calculus (what many refer to as Calc I and II). This includes tutoring college students in on-campus tutoring labs, as well as tutoring students online through Wyzant. There are a wide array of topics to be learned in calculus, including limits and continuity, differentiation, integration, sequences and series, and applied problems. If you need help with test prep, assignments, or learning new topics, I'd be glad to assist you!
Differential Equations

Although it's not my most requested subject, I have some experience tutoring undergraduate differential equations, or what some institutions refer to as Calc 4. I have knowledge of many techniques for solving ordinary differential equations (ODEs), including separable variables, integrating factors, exact equations, reduction of order, superposition principle, annihilators, variation of parameters, and Laplace transforms. Geometry

Geometry

For some students, geometry is a beautiful and intuitive subject. For many others, it is a real challenge. I think this is due to the fact that geometry is often a student's first exposure to proofs and deductive reasoning. Having studied math for many years, I know first hand that proving mathematical claims can be hard, and geometry is no exception. The same is true for many word problems in geometry, which often don't have an obvious method of solving. Add to that all of the theorems and postulates that are presented in geometry, it can feel like an overwhelming amount of information. Know that I am here to help, and I have helped many students young and old in geometry. I have completed course work in undergraduate linear algebra. Linear algebra was one of the subjects I tutored when I worked in the tutorial centers at American River College and Sacramento State University. For many students, the biggest challenge of linear algebra is writing proofs. It is often their first exposure to formal proof writing. For other students, the topics alone (linear independence, linear transformation, matrix operations, etc) are a challenge to grasp. I'm here to help!

When it comes to precalculus, I have tutored many students of all ages. When I worked in tutoring labs on college campuses, students would often come to me with precalculus questions on topics like conic sections, polynomial equations, and trigonometric functions. As an adjunct college instructor, I taught trigonometry, which is not precisely the same as precalculus, but there is a lot of overlap of topics, so much so that at many institutions trigonometry and precalculus are taught in the same course. Test prep, help with assignments, learning new topics, whatever your specific precalculus needs, I am confident I can help you!
Statistics

Statistics

Statistics is one of the subjects I receive the most inquiries about here on Wyzant. And when I worked in tutoring labs on college campuses, helping students in statistics courses was also a very frequent occurrence. As a result, I have many hours experience tutoring students in statistics. At university I completed several statistics courses, including courses that are typically only taken by upper level math majors. I'm very knowledgeable on many topics in statistics, and can usually help with things like test preparation, homework support, and coverage of material. I have fluency with statistics features on popular graphing calculators like the TI-84. However, I don't have much experience with computer software packages like R or SPSS. If you are looking for a statistics tutor and are curious to know if I might be able to help, please contact me and tell me more about your particular needs. I can often help, but even if I can't, I'll always send a polite response.
Trigonometry

Although it's not my most requested subject, I have some experience tutoring trigonometry. And as an adjunct college instructor, I taught a semester-long trigonometry course. This included coverage of the following topics: solving triangles, graphing transformations of functions, trig and inverse trig functions and their graphs, trig identities and solving trig equations, conic sections, polar equations and graphs, complex numbers, and vectors in R^2. BEST tutor ever!!!

This was my daughter’s second time taking STAT 1 at Sac State. I hired Marc at the beginning of the semester to ensure she passes the class in order to graduate. Marc was very patient and explained all concepts in terms she can understand. My daughter has passed all exams and currently has an A in the class. I am confident she will do well in her final exam.
