Hi, I'm Serena! I’m a Fine Arts major at University of Southern California with experience in drawing, painting, and illustration. My academic background combines both studio practice and critical analysis, allowing me to help students not only improve their technical skills, but also understand the historical, cultural, and conceptual foundations of art.
I have several years of tutoring and mentoring experience working with students in both one-on-one and small group settings. As a Math Tutor at Rio Americano High School, I developed individualized lesson plans, guided collaborative study sessions, and adapted my teaching style to different learning needs and skill levels. This experience strengthened my ability to explain complex ideas clearly, build student confidence, and create supportive learning environments — skills that directly translate into art instruction.
In addition to tutoring, I have hands-on creative experience as a freelance artist, where I designed 2D character sprites, backgrounds, and visual assets for game projects. I also volunteered with the Midtown Art Association, helping lead community art outreach initiatives, exhibitions, and collaborative installations. These experiences gave me practical insight into both professional artistic workflows and community-centered art education.
My teaching approach is patient, encouraging, and highly personalized. I work with students to build strong artistic fundamentals in drawing, composition, color, perspective, and painting techniques while also encouraging creative exploration and critical thinking. For students interested in academic art, I can also support art history, visual analysis, portfolio development, and art theory. My goal is to help students develop technical skill, artistic confidence, and a deeper appreciation for art as both a practice and a form of expression.
