Bio

Hello, I’m Charlene! I’m a master's student at UCLA studying Mechanical Engineering, and I’ve spent the past 4 years tutoring math on the side, working 1-on-1 with middle school through high school students to improve homework and test scores and prepare for AP/IB exams. My experience includes AP Calculus, IB Math, Integrated Math I & II, and SAT/ACT Math.

Hello, I’m Charlene! I’m a master's student at UCLA studying Mechanical Engineering, and I’ve spent the past 4 years tutoring math on the side, working 1-on-1 with middle school through high school students to improve homework and test scores and prepare for AP/IB exams. My experience includes AP Calculus, IB Math, Integrated Math I & II, and SAT/ACT Math.

Through this experience, I’ve found that every student learns differently. Some prefer seeing examples of similar problems to apply to what they’re stuck on, while others learn better by working through the steps independently with my prompting questions. Thus, my tutoring strategy is highly adaptive to students’ learning styles to best help them understand the material. My goal isn’t just for a student to solve a similar problem the next time they see it, but to understand the fundamentals well enough to apply them more broadly. I also aim to diminish the hesitancy so many students feel toward math by helping them realize they know more than they think. Through building their confidence, they will retain more information and rely less on me to get through a problem.

I have helped multiple students improve their ACT Math scores through completing practice exams and reviewing missed problems. I review related topics with students based on their missed problems so that they are comfortable solving any similar problem. I also hold students accountable for completing practice tests prior to our lesson, so that there are questions to review and discuss during our lesson.
Calculus

Calculus

I have assisted multiple high school and 1st/2nd year college students in Calculus, from homework help to exam preparation. I've also worked with students over the summer to preview course content. As the AP exam date approaches, I help with review sessions and test prep through completing FRQs and MCQs.

Really Great Tutor

She’s good at teaching math in a way that’s very clear and easy to understand. I’ve been learning from her for the past 3 weeks (6hrs per a week) and learned a lot about calculus. She’ve provided a professional and organized tutoring plan before we started so I could track my progress easily and know about future plans. She assigns some homework so I can review outside of tutoring. Overall I am very satisfied with studying with her👍
