Over the 4 years of my high school career, I have dedicated myself to tutoring peers, friends, and younger students across different grade levels. My passion for teaching and helping others comes from my own struggles in subjects and not having anyone that I was comfortable reaching out to. That’s why I want to help others who need guidance so they don’t feel helpless. I want to provide to other people something that I didn’t have. For that reason, I primarily focus on 1 on 1 classes, because I believe that tailored individual sessions allow me to analyze their weaknesses and adjust the pacing of the classes accordingly. Outside of school, I have online tutoring experience with elementary/middle school students, having over 100 hours of both paid and volunteer tutoring. Notably, I served as a founding member for the Hong Kong branch of the Princeton Learning Experience (PLE) Youth Program.
My background spans official program commitments as well as informal peer support. In official tutoring roles, I maintained a schedule of at least two classes per week. Also, I provided informal peer tutoring before, during, and after school, assisting people who had upcoming tests or content they didn’t understand. I would usually spend an hour in the morning and during the day. I would spend 1-2 hours depending on my availability for after school help. Not only have I voluntarily worked with others at school, that also led me to applying as an AP Chemistry tutor and landing the role. I was just as committed to that role and provided over 250 hours of help during and outside of class time. My qualification for this role also includes my academics. I earned top grades across most STEM coursework, alongside high AP scores(2/8 were 4s and the rest were 5s). When tutoring, I emphasize clear, thorough explanations and adapt my approach to fit each student's unique learning style. My students often describe me as patient and versatile, and that I have multiple ways to explain when one explanation is unclear.
