Hello, I am Miriam! I am currently a university undergraduate studying psychology, hoping to graduate and be able to work with kids or adolescents who need counseling or in-home therapy. I have been tutoring elementary students in the subjects of math, science, social studies, and language arts since my junior year of high school and hope to be able to continue all through university. As a student myself, I know that there are some subjects and topics that are hard to grasp and require further practice to understand fully which is why I enjoy tutoring so much. Not only does it allow me to help someone, but it allows me to refresh my own learning and apply it to real-life situations.
Tutoring for me is more than helping a student get better grades, it's about teaching a student to use their strongest abilities and strengthen their weak ones. It's about applying what was taught to really solidify the learned idea. It's also about allowing the student to learn in a way that is beneficial for them. As a psychology student, I have some knowledge about how the brain works. Not everyone learns best in a classroom setting, it can be distracting and inefficient for some. Tutoring gives me the opportunity to help kids explore different ways of learning to eventually find a method that will work best for them individually.
