I'm Rob, an established test prep instructor with 10+ years of experience teaching the SAT/ACT. I have my PhD in philosophy and, for my day job, teach 11th grade literature, philosophy/theology, and writing at the Ambrose School in Meridian, ID. But I teach students how to crush the SAT on the side!
I earned my PhD in philosophy from Baylor in 2023, have published in academic journals, am a professionally certified teacher, and have been working with students one-on-one since before grad school (2012). I used to tutor a variety of subjects, but now I more or less stick to test prep because I have a specialized program with a complete curriculum designed to maximize students’ scores. I've taught this locally for classes of students for the past 5 years or so, but I use the same program for 1-on-1 tutoring.
I've been refining my program’s curriculum for the last decade. It’s hardly unusual for committed students to see 200, 300, even 400-point increases in their SAT scores. To give you some sense of the effectiveness of my program, I do a small summer PSAT class locally in preparation for the October PSAT/NMSQT, and it’s produced a National Merit Scholar in each of the last 3 years!
The program comes with a complimentary set of printable curriculum materials, including:
- a detailed overview of the test and recommended strategies
- a homework schedule w/ goal tracking
- comprehensive math and grammar references (covering all the concepts one can expect to see)
- periodic in-class quizzes on the most commonly tested content
- a compilation of harder math concepts
I teach at a thriving Classical school, so I'm all about the power of critical thinking. In terms of the SAT, this means showing students how to go beyond mere memorization toward a thorough understanding of the concepts!
Students who work with me will not only maximize their scores but will also come away from tutoring stronger academically, which will make high school and college easier!
