Also, if you have a pre-K student that you'd like to get ready to read, I will give your child a jump start so they are confident and successful going into Kindergarten.

I'm a second career teacher with 15 years experience in Operations Management, and I currently teach 1st grade in Roseville and I also have 5 years experience teaching kindergarten. You'll find me to be flexible, direct and friendly. Our first meeting will be to get to know each other to make sure I'll be a good fit for your child. I'll give you a clear plan for what I will teach. I'll can provide work to do at home to enhance what I am teaching as well as instructions for how to do that work. If your child has special needs, I can help support you in obtaining available resources at school and in the community as well. Finally, I'll give you a clear expectation of what results you can expect over a given period of time.

Approved Subjects

Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I'm a recent Multiple Subject Credential graduate from Brandman University. In addition to over a year's experience tutoring elementary age students, I've student-taught kindergarten and 4th grade and substitute-taught at all elementary grade levels. Students learn best when teaching is geared towards their interests, relevant to their age and lives, and multi-sensory. I'll take the time to get to know your child and tailor an approach that utilizes his or her strengths.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

Too many students lose confidence in their ability to do math too early. I'll create a fun environment for your child, find and use their preferred learning style(s), help your child recognize patterns that make math simpler, and build on small successes. I'll also help parents understand common core, provide resources for you to use at home and give suggestions about strategies for helping with homework when I'm away.
Phonics

Phonics

As a multiple subject credential student, I've completed 6 graduate level units in literacy. My coursework included integrating phonics instruction with whole word reading instruction, and focused on teaching methods as well as content. I've applied my education in phonics and phonemic awareness through 40+ hours of successfully tutoring students. I firmly believe that a solid foundation in phonics is necessary for good reading comprehension.
Reading

Reading

Early elementary students need to have a rock solid foundation in phonemic awareness to become great readers later on. I'll help your child build basic skills, stamina, and give him/her strategies for improving comprehension. We'll play games, read material that is of interest to your child and build confidence while having fun!
Softball

Softball

I grew up playing Roseville Bobby Sox from the age of 6, played competitive travel softball from age 10-16, played 4 years varsity in high school and went on to play in college at Sac City. I was primarily a catcher but also played first base, center field and pitched. I've coached, specifically hitting, pitching and catching since college. I currently coach the 8U & 10U age groups. My specialty is a strong focus on technical fundamentals and the mental aspect of the game.
Study Skills

Study Skills

Most of my tutoring students come to me without strong study skills and habits. My goal as a tutor is to make students independent of me as quickly as possible. I'll work on content with your child, but also teach him/her a system for organizing, managing time and being accountable.
Writing

Writing

Many students with trouble writing lack a strong academic vocabulary and have trouble organizing their thoughts. I teach students systems for both reading and writing that will help them with all writing assignments.
