I am a Special Education Teacher at Patton State Hospital, a forensic psychiatric treatment facility, where I teach judicially committed patients with severe mental illness. I instruct Adult Basic Education, High School Equivalency Prep, and provide special education services. I am certified to instruct students from kindergarten, grades 1-12 through age of 22 and specialize in teaching students with moderate to severe disabilities including autism, specific learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, emotional disabilities etc.

I earned my Master's in Special Education with an Extensive Supports Needs Preliminary Credential that will be cleared this May. Much of my professional experience has focused on working with students with autism and intellectual disabilities. As an Intern Teacher, I taught a K-2 severe autism class of 13 students with complex and challenging behavioral needs. By implementing structured routines and consistent behavioral supports, I helped my students achieve meaningful growth in their academic, social, and behavioral development.

Since 2016, I have built a diverse background with experience as a Private Tutor, Behavior Therapist, Instructional Aide, and Substitute Teacher prior to becoming a classroom teacher. Now in my fourth year as a Special Education Teacher, I have experience working with students across all grade levels with diverse needs.

I will begin a PhD program in Special Education this fall. I am deeply committed to advancing the field and advocating for students with disabilities, particularly marginalized individuals living with mental illness.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I worked at the Carolyn E Wylie Autism Department as a Behavioral Therapist for about a year. I serviced clients on the Autism Spectrum by running one on one interventions at the clinic and home settings. I worked with clients on essential skills such as social, communication, play and motor skills. I have training in tracking behavioral data and using it to shape a client's behavior by running fun programs that target areas of impaired functioning. I utilized replacement behavior techniques to divert maladaptive behavior in accordance to the client’s Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP). I also built rapport and provided positive reinforcement to clients to encourage appropriate and proper behaviors. The goal of ABA is to increase important daily social skills that are helpful to the client and to decrease adverse or harmful behaviors.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I have tutored Elementary level Math throughout schools in the Corona Norco School District. I worked as an Instructional Aide for over three years helping students in all subjects primarily Reading and Math. I am able to break down concepts in simpler terms so that the student understands the material.
Reading

Reading

I have tutored students with Autism and learning disabilities in Reading. I help them by having the students sound out the word and giving appropriate prompts to increase their fluency. Many students struggle with phonetics so I divide the words into syllables so that they can pronounce each part piece by piece and the put the word together. With the words they don't know or are struggling with, I will make note and produce a sight word list so they can practice. I also make flashcards so that it increases the student's memory of the words.
