I am a Special Education Teacher at Patton State Hospital, a forensic psychiatric treatment facility, where I teach judicially committed patients with severe mental illness. I instruct Adult Basic Education, High School Equivalency Prep, and provide special education services. I am certified to instruct students from kindergarten, grades 1-12 through age of 22 and specialize in teaching students with moderate to severe disabilities including autism, specific learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, emotional disabilities etc.
I earned my Master's in Special Education with an Extensive Supports Needs Preliminary Credential that will be cleared this May. Much of my professional experience has focused on working with students with autism and intellectual disabilities. As an Intern Teacher, I taught a K-2 severe autism class of 13 students with complex and challenging behavioral needs. By implementing structured routines and consistent behavioral supports, I helped my students achieve meaningful growth in their academic, social, and behavioral development.
Since 2016, I have built a diverse background with experience as a Private Tutor, Behavior Therapist, Instructional Aide, and Substitute Teacher prior to becoming a classroom teacher. Now in my fourth year as a Special Education Teacher, I have experience working with students across all grade levels with diverse needs.
I will begin a PhD program in Special Education this fall. I am deeply committed to advancing the field and advocating for students with disabilities, particularly marginalized individuals living with mental illness.
