About Natalya

Bio

Hi everyone, I’m a college student. I come from a deaf family and love being part of the deaf community.

I'm a hearing person, but ASL was my first language thanks so much to my deaf parents and seven deaf siblings

I'm in my final year at CBU, studying communications, and I'm aiming to become an ASL interpreter in the future. I've done some interpreting at the S.T.E.P conference, which gave me a good look at what goes on behind the scenes. Plus, I had a deaf best friend growing up, so...

Plus, I had a deaf best friend growing up, so I've seen the other side of interpretation for years.

I've been teaching and tutoring for 10 years now. I've taught ASL to homeschool kids and helped out people internationally with ASL virtually through Zoom and in person – showing I can handle a variety of teaching situations.

My main goal in tutoring is to boost your confidence in signing. I'm here to help parents with deaf children who want to learn sign language to communicate better. I’m here to help students who want to learn sign language quickly. And if you need ASL for your work (especially if you're in healthcare), I've got your back.

Hello! I believe in the power of education, and I'm excited to share my expertise in various subjects. To offer you the best tutoring experience, I'd like to highlight my top subjects, which are also my areas of highest proficiency and passion: 1. American Sign Language (ASL): ASL has been an integral part of my life. Growing up in a deaf family, it was my first language, and I've continued to develop my skills throughout my academic journey. I have experience teaching ASL to homeschool students and providing virtual and in-person support, so I can adapt to various learning styles. 2. Communication Studies: Pursuing a degree in communications at CBU has given me in-depth knowledge of this subject. As I aim to become an ASL interpreter, my communication studies background enhances my ability to convey concepts effectively and facilitate understanding. 3. Deaf Culture and Community: With a profound connection to the deaf community, I possess a deep understanding of deaf culture and its importance. I can offer valuable insights into the cultural aspects of ASL, which can greatly enrich your learning experience. 4. Interpreting Skills: My experience as an interpreter at the S.T.E.P conference has honed my interpreting skills. I can guide you through the intricacies of ASL interpretation, providing practical tips and behind-the-scenes knowledge. 5. Teaching and Tutoring Strategies: I've dedicated a significant portion of my life to teaching and tutoring. My teaching methods are adaptable, and I can cater to your unique learning needs.

Very patient, understanding, flexible

One of the best things about Natalya is that she is willing to meet the child on their level. When my son is on the ground, she gets down. If he's in a chair, she sits with him. When he's in my arms, she holds books up and signs to him there. It's great to see her ability to follow the child so she can meet the existing need and create improved skill.

Knowledgeable and concientious tutor

Natalya makes ASL fun for my daughter. She enjoys Natalya's style of tutoring. She checks in with her to make sure she understands what is being taught and reviews what she has taught at the end of class.

Great trainer, excellent communicator, passionate about ASL language and culture.

Natalya has taken the time to understand what I want and need to learn. She has customised her training style to my learning abilities. For example: she, through our conversations, has figured out that I retain more knowledge when she integrate words into the ASL conversation rather than simply reviewing a vocabulary list. This and other small adaptations makes learning ASL with Natalya a comfortable, beneficial, and enjoyable experience. CWiley
