Hello! I'm Charnelle! I hold a bachelor’s degree in Biology and a master’s degree in Marine Science, and I have several years of experience supporting students in both informal and formal learning environments. As a student, I valued classrooms where questions were encouraged and teachers provided additional resources to make challenging concepts clear and easy to follow. Those experiences have shaped my own teaching philosophy: I strive to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, exploring ideas, and developing confidence in their abilities. During graduate school, I served as a teaching assistant and graduate assistant, helping students understand and successfully carry out marine science research.
My teaching experience spans a variety of ages and learning environments. I taught science in an open, hands-on setting to elementary students through an after-school program for more than five years, followed by one year as a science teacher in a formal classroom. I have also spent a year tutoring students in reading and critical thinking and more than two years assisting with my advisors’ university-level courses. I specialize in science, biology, marine science, reading, and critical thinking, with a teaching approach centered on breaking complex topics into manageable steps, encouraging questions, and adapting lessons to each student's individual needs.
My priority is helping students achieve academic success while developing the confidence and skills they can carry into future classes. I welcome input and resources from students, parents, and teachers so that lessons can be tailored to each learner. Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson. I look forward to working with you and helping make learning a rewarding experience!
