The reason why I teach? That "A-HA!" moment when something clicks and I see the lightbulb of comprehension glow in my students' eyes. I've been teaching for nearly 25 years, and that moment will always be the most gratifying experience for me.

I strongly believe that knowledge is power, and self-knowledge can be the universal key to unlock any challenge. I specialize in building students' confidence and self-efficacy through self-awareness while mastering specific content knowledge. I also care very deeply that families of students, especially those with learning differences, fully understand them and also learn tools to help support and advocate for their kids. When students and their whole teams learn how they learn best, then they realize there is no educational barrier they can't get around. When students themselves see where their strengths lie, what their hurdles are in learning something, and what tools or resources can help get past them, they become empowered to reach their learning goals and even enjoy some of the most difficult subjects.

I have an undergraduate degree in biology, a Master's in Teaching, and another Master's in Language Acquisition and TEFL. I have California teaching credentials in biology and special education and previously held one in Pennsylvania for math. I also have a Cambridge Certificate for English Language Teaching to Adults. I have taught algebra, geometry, ESL, writing, and several science courses. However, while studying to become an Education Specialist (Special Education teacher), I realized that the most interesting aspect of teaching is not rooted in a particular subject area, but it is in figuring out how individual students need to learn and delivering targeted instruction based on their needs.

No matter your subject or skill need, I look forward to helping you on your learning journey!

ADHD

ADHD

I earned my Special Education Teaching Credential in 2018. I have had many students over the years who have ADHD and have learned that these creative, spontaneous, excellent problem solvers often just need to adjust their learning strategies to be successful in school. In turn, teachers, schools, and family members also need to learn these strategies and methods for helping these students reach their potential. Quite often these are some of the most brilliant and quick learners in a class, yet they need some guidance in executive functioning to complete and manage tasks.
Special Needs

Special Needs

I earned my Special Education Teaching Credential in 2018 and have taught students with a wide range of learning differences, including SLD, SLI, autism, and ADHD. I have learned strategies for supporting all learner profiles both from experience as an Education Specialist of more than a decade as well as from my SpEd credential program. The various processing differences and sensitivities that a student may have does not preclude them from learning and reaching their academic goals; we, their teachers and families, simply need to learn HOW they need to tackle the task of learning and support them in the process.
Study Skills

Study Skills

All students are capable of learning any material, but not everyone is innately equipped with the skills to manage their own learning. Gaining an understanding of our own strengths and needs in learning is the most empowering step in becoming a better student. From there we can learn to organize, plan, and manage all the necessary tasks for academic success. Sometimes all it takes is some helpful guidance from an expert.
