I hold a Ph.D. in Public Administration and Policy and a Graduate Certificate in Asian Studies from the University of Pittsburgh, an MPA from Seoul National University, and a B.A. in Sociology from Hanyang University. I am currently completing a Korean language teacher education program, with coursework ending in August 2026 and the degree expected in February 2027. My academic background has given me extensive knowledge of Korean society, culture, government, and institutions.
Although I have not yet taught Korean language courses, I have extensive experience mentoring international students and helping them adapt to Korean society. I mentored students from Japan for one year as an undergraduate and undergraduate and graduate students from Uganda, Colombia, and Argentina for about one and a half years during my master’s program at Seoul National University. I also served as a teaching assistant for an introductory Korean Public Administration course, developing materials on Korean society and institutions and providing one-on-one support. I have also experienced language learning firsthand, having studied Chinese in China for one month, English in the U.S. for seven months, and Spanish while volunteering in Mexico for one month. These experiences helped me understand the challenges and rewards of learning and using a foreign language in real-life settings.
My teaching approach is student-centered and tailored to each learner’s goals and level. I especially welcome university students, graduate students, researchers, and adult learners who want to develop Korean skills while gaining a deeper understanding of Korean society and culture. Lessons can incorporate conversation, reading, vocabulary, cultural context, and authentic Korean materials. My goal is to help students build practical Korean skills, gain confidence, and better understand Korean people and society.
