I am a native Mandarin and Cantonese speaker with a bachelor’s degree in Chinese Language and Literature from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. I also hold a Master of Communication Management and an MBA from the University of Southern California. I am professionally proficient in English and have more than a decade of professional experience across higher education, technology, product marketing, and entertainment, as well as experience in human capital consulting.
For approximately two years, I have informally tutored family members and friends in Mandarin through one-on-one sessions. I have primarily helped learners who already understand pinyin and possess foundational Mandarin skills. My tutoring has focused on improving spoken fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, natural phrasing, and the ability to respond confidently in real conversations. I listen carefully to how each learner speaks, identify recurring patterns, explain corrections in English when helpful, and provide more natural alternatives to textbook expressions.
I am especially interested in working with intermediate and advanced adult learners who are serious about improving their Mandarin for professional settings. I customize sessions around each learner’s goals and use practical scenarios such as professional introductions, networking, meetings, presentations, client conversations, and workplace discussions. My approach combines conversation practice, targeted correction, role-play, and relevant vocabulary so that learners can apply what they practice to situations they are likely to encounter.
