My own STEM career has taken me to a top-ranked chemistry PhD program (University of Illinois Urbana Champaign), to Europe for a postdoc (University of Pavia), and to the Bay Area working in drug discovery and design (Stanford). I have been awarded fellowships, published papers, and secured patents. While I have rigorously trained at the intersection of scientific inquiry and human health, my true calling in life is to be an educator.
My students have many of the same struggles that I have had with coursework and school. I was always the kid in class that couldn’t sit still and had a hard time paying attention. I’ve spent plenty of time as a young adult wondering if it is possible for me to increase my attention span. How can I realize my full potential?
