Hello, my name is Michael, and I am a currently licensed teacher with a California clear credential and over 8 years of classroom experience. I have experience tutoring almost every subject and grade level, although I specialize in teaching math and science: algebra, geometry, algebra 2, trigonometry and pre-calculus, biology, physiology and physics. I also have a passion for music. Prior to my classroom teaching career, I spent over a decade as a professional musician writing, recording and performing with my band, World Tribe. This eventually lead to an opportunity to teach guitar lessons, which I can also provide to children and adults. I specialize in teaching acoustic, bass and electric guitars, and helping students to read music and understand basic music theory.

For whatever subject I am teaching, I focus on the individual needs of each client. I will find the most efficient and effective way to get improved results in your specific areas of concern, for example:

During my initial teacher training, I was undecided between math and science. This led me to prepare for my credential for both subjects. Now, with over 8 years of high school teaching experience, I am certain I can help anyone improve their comprehension of math at any level. After countless hours teaching and tutoring students at Fremont Senior High School, I am aware of the problems that many students have when it comes to understanding algebra and geometry. I love coming up with creative ways to explain mathematical concepts to my students!

By making a connection to familiar concepts and formulas from Algebra 1 and Geometry, I have helped many students understand Algebra 2. My academic background includes studying Geometry, Algebra 2, Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus at PV High School, and studying Calculus while attending USC. I have helped students better understand parent functions, transformations, quadratic equations, imaginary numbers, polynomials, synthetic division, graphing, exponents and logarithms.

Anatomy

Understanding human anatomy can lead to very successful carries in health and medicine. It is practical information that can improve the quality of one's life. However, many students struggle with the subject. I can teach anatomy to anyone by breaking down vocabulary, organizing information and making connections between all the structures of the human body.

I hold a CA clear credential for secondary biological science. Over the last 8 years, I have taught high school biology here in Los Angeles. In addition, I have taught classes in marine biology, anatomy and physiology. For years, I worked as a surgical assistant to an oral surgeon. My experience as a classroom science teacher combined with my experience working in the medical field allows me to provide unique insight to my students.
Chemistry

Understanding chemistry is required to understand biological structures and functions. Most of my experience using the concepts and formulas related to chemistry relate to biology. However, my background also includes studying Chemistry and Organic Chemistry while attending USC. Also, I have taught introductory chemistry to high school freshman. I can help students better understand atoms, ions, elements, compounds, the periodic table, and chemical equations. I have also helped students complete lab reports and science fair projects.

I hold a current CA clear credential for secondary biological science. During my 7 years at John C. Fremont Senior High School in Los Angeles, I taught Integrated Coordinated Science (ICS), biology, chemistry, marine biology and physiology. One of the largest, most important units of any biology course is focused on genetics. I have a strong background in defining the terminology, explaining the math, solving problems and making predictions related to the study of genetics. I have already created numerous custom worksheets, games, projects and labs in an effort to explain genetics to my students.

Geometry is all about understanding the mathematics behind shape and proportion. It is one of the most practical applications of math, although it can be difficult for some students. By using visual elements and defining relevant terminology, I can take the mystery out of geometry for my clients.

I spent over a decade as a professional musician. Writing, recording and performing with my band, which eventually led to an opportunity to teach guitar lessons. For many years prior to earning my secondary science teaching credential, I taught acoustic, electric and bass guitar lessons privately and at the Hermosa School of Dance and Music (Dan Galitzen, proprietor). During the 7 years I spent teaching high school biology, I also started a guitar club and provided lessons to any of our students.

As a graduate from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology and as a former LAUSD teacher, Nutrition has been a fundamental subject for me to study and teach. I maintain my CA Clear Credential in Biological Science, where Nutrition is incorporated into the CA science standards for biology. I have taught classes and tutored numerous students in Biology, Anatomy, and Physiology, which include topics like macromolecules, nutrition, healthy eating habits, wellness, and other essential health concepts.

Then while attending USC, it was necessary to understand Trigonometry to succeed in Physics and Calculus. By making connections to familiar concepts from Algebra and Geometry, I can make it easier to learn and understand Trigonometry.
