University of Southern California (USC) (Kinesiology)
Hello, my name is Michael, and I am a currently licensed teacher with a California clear credential and over 8 years of classroom experience. I have experience tutoring almost every subject and grade level, although I specialize in teaching high school biology, physiology and marine biology. I love math almost as much as science, and I have a passion for music. Prior to my classroom teaching career, I spent over a decade as a professional musician writing, recording and performing with my band, World Tribe. This eventually lead to an opportunity to teach guitar lessons, which I can also provide to children and adults. I specialize in teaching acoustic, bass and electric guitars, and helping students to read music and understand basic music theory.
For whatever subject I am teaching, I focus on the individual needs of each client. I will find the most efficient and effective way to get improved results in your specific areas of concern, for example:
* Academic vocabulary/reading comprehension

Michael is awesome he has assisted my son on increasing his problem solving skills. My son would become frustrated and unmotivated. Working with Michael has changed that. Great tutor!
You can tell that Michael has a lot of experience teaching. He's very good at making information fun and interesting for kids whom otherwise might not be into it. He's got a great attitude, my kids really liked him, and most of all they learned a lot!
He has helped me with word problems in math so I can better explain them to the kids I help out. He has simplified problems to make them more easy to solve and work through. He is very personable and fun and knows a wide range of subjects. He is helping me in math and will soon be helping me with science. If you want good, solid information and success in the future, I highly recommend him!
Michael did a great job helping my son improve his grade in geometry in a short amount of time. Even staying longer until he was convinced he understood everything. I would highly recommend him.
We have worked with Michael since January for Algebra I. Helpful and caring. Motivational. Different ways to teaching to get you to learn something. He also helped with Science. He is very flexible and relates well with my daughter.
Michael has been tutoring my daughter for about 4 months in Geometry and has been wonderful! She attends an online school and needed additional help with geometry concepts. Mike helped her to understand concepts by being very thorough and extremely explanatory. He is very knowledgeable about math and science concepts.
Michael is great in Biology. With only 2 tutoring sessions, my son was able to get an A in his final. Before that, his tests were in mid Cs. Thank you Michael for helping my son feel successful.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
During my initial teacher training, I was undecided between math and science. This led me to prepare for my credential in either subject. At some point, I needed to dedicate my efforts to one subject, and I finally chose science. I actually spent six months as a student teacher for a high school algebra 1 class. Now, with over seven years experience teaching high school students, I'm certain I can help anyone improve their comprehension of math. I have spent many hours tutoring my students at Fremont Senior High School, and I am aware of the problems that many students have when it comes to understanding algebra and geometry. I love coming up with creative ways to explain mathematical concepts!
By making a connection to familiar concepts and formulas from Algebra 1 and Geometry, I have helped many students understand Algebra 2. My academic background includes studying Geometry, Algebra 2, Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus at PV High School, and studying Calculus while attending USC. I have helped students better understand parent functions, transformations, quadratic equations, imaginary numbers, polynomials, synthetic division, graphing, exponents and logarithms.
Understanding human anatomy can lead to very successful carries in health and medicine. It is practical information that can improve the quality of one's life. However, many students struggle with the subject. I can teach anatomy to anyone by breaking down vocabulary, organizing information and making connections between all the structures of the human body.
I hold a CA clear credential for secondary biological science. Over the last 8 years, I have taught high school biology here in Los Angeles. In addition, I have taught classes in marine biology and physiology. I have spent many hours tutoring my students during lunch and after school, in addition to assisting with science fair projects.
I hold a current CA clear credential for secondary biological science. During my 7 years at John C. Fremont Senior High School in Los Angeles, I taught Integrated Coordinated Science (ICS), biology, chemistry, marine biology and physiology. One of the largest, most important units of any biology course is focused on genetics. I have a strong background in defining the terminology, explaining the math, solving problems and making predictions related to the study of genetics. I have already created numerous custom worksheets, games, projects and labs in an effort to explain genetics to my students.
Geometry is all about understanding the mathematics behind shape and proportion. It is one of the most practical applications of math, although it can be difficult for some students. By using visual elements and defining relevant terminology, I can take the mystery out of geometry for my clients.
I spent over a decade as a professional musician. Writing, recording and performing with my band, which eventually led to an opportunity to teach guitar lessons. For many years prior to earning my secondary science teaching credential, I taught acoustic, electric and bass guitar lessons privately and at the Hermosa School of Dance and Music (Dan Galitzen, proprietor). During the 7 years I spent teaching high school biology, I also started a guitar club and provided lessons to any of our students.
Including junior and senior level physiology classes, I have been teaching high school biology for over the last 8 years. I have years of experience creating lessons to teach students about the various structures and functions of the human body. My previous career as a surgical assistant gives me a clinical application of physiology that I can relate to my students.
As a high school teacher, I've had many students come to me for help at lunch and after school. By defining mathematical terms and explaining solutions step-by-step, I have been able to assist numerous students with their pre-algebra and other math classes. Understanding exponents, fractions, percentages, radicals and reciprocals and triangles is critical to success with pre-algebra.
Trigonometry involves properties and ratios of right triangles, and it is used in many applications of math and science. I originally studied Trigonometry at Palos Verdes High School. Then while attending USC, it was necessary to understand Trigonometry to succeed in Physics and Calculus. By making connections to familiar concepts from Algebra and Geometry, I can make it easier to learn and understand Trigonometry.
