Hello! I'm Dr. Chandra Payton, a retired California educator with a doctorate in education and many years of elementary classroom experience as both a teacher and an intervention specialist in ELA, Math, and ESL.
I specialize in helping 3rd through 5th grade students build strong, confidant writing skills - especially for the SBAC (Smarter Balanced) assessments. My sessions are personalized, encouraging, and focused on the fundamentals: paragraph structure, using evidence from texts, organizing ideas, and developing clear opinion, narrative, and informative pieces.
As an intervention teacher, I am skilled at meeting students exactly where they are - whether they need extra support with basic writing conventions, reading comprehension, sentence fluency, math concepts (fractions, word problems, fluency), or academic English and conversational skills for ESL (or EL) learners. I use gentle, step-by-step guidance and lots of positive reinforcement so every child feels supported and proud of their progress.
Parents often tell me their child gains confidence quickly and starts enjoying learning again - whether in writing, math, or English language development.
