I have a bachelor’s degree in American Studies from University of California, Davis. American Studies is an interdisciplinary degree that focuses on studying American culture through various lenses including anthropology, sociology, history, literature, and art. The ability to analyze information in multiple ways has benefited me throughout my life. After college, I found a professional career as a technical writer for various companies, where I gathered information into multiple types of documents, including user guides, classes, and websites. In several positions, I designed training courses for software and hardware produced by the company. More recently, I was able to return to academia and gained a Master’s degree in History from California State University, Chico. As part of that program I worked as a teaching assistant for introductory American history. I enjoyed working with students who sought me out during my office hours, and also offered test guidance to small groups of between 10-20 students.

I spent much of my professional career designing classes and documentation to convey technical information to various, often diverse audiences. I’m familiar with how to setup learning plans to make the best use of limited time. As someone who has dealt primarily with adult students, I’m aware that they learn best when they are interested and engaged in the material, which often means personalizing the material. It is also important for me to gain information from the student that allows me to connect the new material they are studying to concepts they are already familiar with, equipping them with a deeper understanding of the new field.

I am always eager to help people learn new information and succeed in their endeavors. If you have any questions about my qualifications or abilities, please contact me.

American History

American History

I have researched and written about U.S. American history since I was an undergraduate. When completing my Master's degree, it was one of my specialty topics. I am especially interested in the west-ward expansion of the nineteenth century but can teach about any era.
Needlework

Needlework

The term needlework covers multiple crafts, including various types of lace work, embroidery, knitting, and crochet. I have knit for over 20 years on projects including lace, cables and colorwork. I am an expert knitter who can help you with any type of project. I have done cross-stitch embroidery for even longer, and can also answer any questions about that. I can also help with beginning steps in bobbin lace, other types of embroidery, and crochet.
World History

World History

My Master's program encouraged taking a variety of classes, even if they were outside your area of emphasis to encourage well-rounded study. One of my areas of interest was European history, but I'm also familiar with the Middle East, and northern Africa.
