Hello, I am Mrs. D., your positive thinking, smiling tutor! I achieved my degree in Communication Studies from California State University at Northridge but received my real education by homeschooling my own children and tutoring students for the past 20 years. Tutoring my own students as well as countless others gives me the experience necessary to meet your student where they are and help them excel to reach their educational goals. I have years of experience working with charter school students, from one on one tutoring to classroom experience with elementary to high school subjects. I specialize in IEW and EB writing methods, ELA, mathematics through Algebra I, US History, and public speaking. This year I have mastered teaching and tutoring on-line, while not always ideal I find I can be very effective and engaging. The most rewarding part of tutoring is watching a student achieve their goals. By breaking a difficult task into understandable and achievable parts we can accomplish anything together.

I have tutored many elementary students utilizing different curriculum and styles. I have several years of experience teaching Pre-Algebra in a classroom and private tutoring situations. I have been teaching Algebra I in the classroom for two years and enjoy tutoring students in this subject making the problems that look the worst, as easy as when you learned to count! My students and I share a phrase, "It's so easy, it's hard" meaning that the problem is often so easy that you think it is difficult.

Having participated in the Speech and Debate team in high school, I won many local speech competitions in expository, duo interpretation, and team debate. As a college student, I was a member of the debate team for CSUN and even traveled for competitions. As a high school teacher for a charter school, I taught the debate class for two years and enjoy public speaking.

I have been approved by Wyzant to tutor Algebra and have been tutoring Algebra for several years. I am familiar with many different curriculums and have developed my own “Mrs. D’s” little helps which give students ways to remember formulas and processes. My easy going and warm personality puts students at ease and encourages students relax and focus on the subject.

I am passionate about American History and I enjoyed teaching it over the years. I have taken the AP US History test myself and scored a 5. In addition I know how to study to maximize retention of information as well as strategies for taking these kind of test. It isn’t about knowing dates and events, it’s about analyzing what the significant impacts and overall consequences of a decision or events. I can assist your students in preparing for this daunting test.

I have been teaching various levels of elementary students for 20 years and can teach children to read, excel at mathematics, understand history and conduct science experiments to explain our world. I teach IEW writing method, utilize the Abeka reading system as well as provide curriculum planning. My degree is in Communications Studies, which allows me to provide an excellent level of understanding and to effectively communicate to students the techniques necessary to be a success.

Ms Patricia is really wonderful! She helped my son achieve a letter grade higher in ELA in just one quarter of tutoring! My 5th grade son says "from 1 to 10, I give Mrs. D a 92", which is quite the compliment. :) We highly recommend her

My 14 and 12 are homeschooled and were struggling in writing and weren't so confident. Any writing class they attended they didn't enjoy and/or didn't learn much. Also they sometime complained the teacher was boring. Patricia flipped that around with in 3 months. She is very flexible with either meeting in person or online. My kids like when she jokes around makes them feel comfortable. They haven't complained and are learning, which is a win win for me. I would highly recommend her
