Hello! My name is Rebecca and I am excited to help some students in their journey towards mathematical mastery!

I graduated from USC with a Bachelor's in Math and a Master's degree/teaching credential in Math education. I have taught high-school math for the last 11 years (3 years in Pomona, and 8 years in Irvine.) I have also taught at the Community College level. Hello! My name is Rebecca and I am excited to help some students in their journey towards mathematical mastery!

I graduated from USC with a Bachelor's in Math and a Master's degree/teaching credential in Math education. I have taught high-school math for the last 11 years (3 years in Pomona, and 8 years in Irvine.) I have also taught at the Community College level. My high school teaching experience includes the following subjects: Algebra I/II, Pre-Calc, Geometry, Math I/II/III, AP Statistics, AP Calc AB, FST (Functions, Stats, Trig.) At the community college level, I have had experience teaching Elementary Statistics, Elementary Algebra and Pre-Calc. I am fully qualified to instruct on any mathematical level up through Calc AB, but I have had the most experience with Geometry, Algebra, Statistics and Calc. I have had great success teaching both AP Calc AB and AP Statistics and helping students to pass those exams.

My teaching method is to fully explain the "why" behind the concepts, and to tie all concepts into the "big picture." As a teacher of over 11 years, I have found that one of the pitfalls of tutoring can be when the tutors talk students through every problem. It is much easier for students to perform a problem when watching a problem done for them or being prompted with the first, second steps etc. However, when it comes to an exam, those same students will often struggle on their own. It is therefore imperative that students can independently analyze and critically think through various types of the same concept. I will therefore ensure that all of my tutoring sessions involve a fair amount of time where students are working through problems completely independently to then be checked by me. If they need my assistance at any point along the way, then we will simply mark that problem as one that they need to return to and try again on their own. In this way, students can begin to build confidence in their mathematical proficiency in knowing that they can solve problems completely unassisted.

I spent 3 and a half years teaching AP Calculus AB at my first teaching job. I took a class that only had 14 students to start, and slowly grew the course into two sections of 25-30 students. In addition, when I first took the class over, students were only scoring 1's on the AP exam. For my last year teaching this class , I had half my class score a 2 and higher, a third of the class passed with a 3 and higher, and a fourth of the class scored a 4 or a 5.

For 8 years teaching in Irvine, I have taught 3 years of Geometry and an additional 5 years teaching Math II, where the second semester is all Geometry concepts.

From teaching classes such as geometry and AP Statistics, I have 8+ years of teaching probability concepts. A difficult subject for a lot of students, but a very important one to understand. I really enjoy teaching the "why" behind this subject as well as demonstrating how we see probability play out in every day scenarios.

I love teaching statistics! It is easily my favorite math subject because it is so applicable to the real world. I believe it is a very important subject that all students should become proficient in. I have had 6 years teaching AP Statistics in Irvine and getting great results on the AP exam where 90%+ students pass. I have also had several years teaching statistics at the Community College level. I am also proficient in different statistics tools such as the TI-83/84 graphing calculators and a Statistical online program called MiniTab. I love explaining the "why" behind different Statistical concepts and demonstrating how we see them play out in the real world on a daily basis.

Incredible Tutor!!

I needed to take my first maths class in 10 years and was nervous to get back to it. Not only was Rebecca kind and patient while I worked my way through the course, but she also made me feel confident going into exams. Rebecca was available and flexible, and excellent at explaining complicated statistics concepts to someone who has little understanding of the subject. I ended the class with an A+ all thanks to Rebecca. Will definitely be coming back for future statistics classes! Highly recommend.

Very skilled math instructor; so nice and patient!

Rebecca has been my daughter’s tutor this year for 10th grade honors math. Her in-school instructor hasn’t provided much direct instruction, so my daughter has been meeting with Rebecca weekly to supplement the class. Rebecca is so nice and patient! My daughter finds her sessions with Rebecca incredibly valuable. My daughter brings the concepts and problems to the sessions (sent ahead of time), and she and Rebecca work through example problems together—but in a way that helps my daughter learn to do them on her own. It’s worked really well; my daughter has been doing much better in the class since they started working together. We’re so grateful for all Rebecca has done for her this year!
