Hello! My name is Emma and I've been a physical therapist for almost 10 years. I graduated from UC Davis with a B.S. in Exercise Biology in 2011 and then my doctorate in physical therapy at Samuel Merritt University in 2016. I've been on the Wyzant platform since 2009, tutoring students from elementary up through high school. During my academic years, I also routinely tutored my peers.
Though my career focus has been the biological sciences, I've always had a great side love for math and teaching - so much so that I embarked on dual teaching and medical paths while I was an undergraduate student.
In terms of math, I feel that all students are capable of understanding any problem or concept. However, the common hindrance for many students when taking advanced math courses is that their basic mathematical foundations were not properly established. Unlike other subjects where rote memorization is often favored, math builds upon older concepts. I've noticed that for many students, those old concepts are there, but the bridge between old and new is missing. My goal is to help build that bridge so that my students not only achieve academic success, but develop a deep understanding of the mechanics and artistry of math as well.
With that said, my other love is, of course, science. With my degree and experience as a physical therapist, I am well versed in subjects including Biology, Neurobiology, Physiology, Gross Anatomy, and Biomechanics. I have also tutored elementary school students helping them improve their reading and writing.
My motivation to enter the tutoring space again is simply because I love seeing students succeed. It lights me up when a child smiles confidently because they finally "got it!" In an increasingly complex world, I want to do my part to instill in our youth a love of learning, invigoration to do hard things, and most importantly, belief in themselves and their limitless abilities.
I look forward to hearing from you and perhaps working with you soon!
