Bio

I love teaching. I have taught almost everything from k-12. My main field is History, but I have taught English, English to Second Language Learners, General Science, 6th grade math, Computer science, and English 6-8 grade. I am a certified teacher in California in several subjects.

I taught for 22 years in the Long Beach Unified School District and this year was looking for a bit of a change. Tutoring appeals to me because I can work one on one or in small groups. I am here to help you and to make sure students achieve.

I have taught US History in both middle school and high school. I have also taught AP History classes in High School. I am certified to teach social science classes in grades 7-12.

As we study world history; We also study the history of man. I like to interject anthropology when i teach World History. I think it gives students a better idea of what has happened in history and why people react to certain events.

I have dabbled in a couple of actual digs. One in Israel near the Golan Heights and another in Montana. I think archaeology is an important part of social science. It gives us a window on the past. It also helps us look to the future.

Classics

Classical history is the study of Rome, Greece, and Mesopotamia. I have taught and tutored these subjects in High School. I've taught ancient civilizations for 5 years to Freshmen and sophomores in high school. I have also tutored college level students in the classics for two years.

I have worked with elementary students, tutoring them in the past. Grades 2-8.I have worked with basic math, algebra, English, English grammar, history (early man, Greek, classical, American, etc.). I also have taught computers to young children as well. I work on study skills with them and homework as well. I have taught Elementary students in grades 5 and 6. I love teaching these grades because the children are so inquisitive and love to learn the subhjects. It's fun to be able to go from math to history to PE and then English all in one day. I have worked in a contained classroom as well.

It covers events and rulers from the 10th century on. In the course you will find out what leads up to important events and what causes most of the European conflicts that affect the world.

I have worked as a reading specialist in elementary schools. I use the phonic system and site system to encourage reading for students who have difficulty. It is important to find things that children are interested in to encourage them to read. If they like the subject, it becomes easier for them to read about the subject.

I have worked for the past 10-15 years on study skills with students from grade 2 through college. I work with them on how to take a test; how to understand and interpret questions; how to take and use note cards to study from for a test or quiz; what is the most important part of a lecture and what to pick out to put in notes. I have taught how to improve test scores, how to improve on essay tests and be more to the point and articulate on essay exams, how to take notes from a lecture form, and what are the ways to pick out important facts or dates to study from

I have been on an AAU track team when I was in Junior High and High School. I participated in 100 yd. dash, javalin, long jump and relay teams. I also coached track and field in high school for 3 years.

I was a volleyball coach for 10 years. I coached both boys and girls teams in High School. I also played USVBA volleyball for 15 years. It is one of my favorite sports to coach and participate in.
