I have 20+ years of teaching experience and believe in providing students with the necessary tools to feel empowered to succeed in their educational journey. As a tutor, I do not merely help students complete an assignment, but I also provide them with the tools to feel confident in their ability to independently tackle challenging course materials. I have always been an educator and researcher driven by a passion to empower students to reach their true potential and to give them the necessary skills they need to succeed in their academic and personal endeavors. As a first-generation Arab American woman who earned her Ph.D., I am particularly passionate about working with culturally diverse students who believe in the power of knowledge to transform their lives.
Fully bi-lingual in English and Arabic, I have a B.A. in English Literature from the Faculty of Arts, Damascus, Syria, an M.A. in English Literature from Sonoma State University, and a Ph.D. in Education with a designated emphasis in Critical Theory and Women & Gender Studies from the University of California, Davis. As a Professor of English at Sonoma State University, Rohnert Park, I help college students engage their critical thinking skills and relate course materials to the world and their everyday experiences. When I teach English composition, my goal is to enable students to acquire the reading and writing skills needed to excel in college and work. Some of the courses I teach include, Freshman Analytical Reading and Writing, Writing Intensive Composition & Rhetoric, World Literature, Middle Eastern and Arab Writers, American Literature, War and Peace, Research & Creativity, Native American Studies. When I was pursuing graduate school, I had the opportunity to teach courses in Cultural Anthropology, Linguistic Anthropology, Asian American Psychology, Middle East/South Asia Literature, and Arabic language.
