Hello! My name is Jose and I am a former elementary and high school teacher with experience working in private and charter schools. I provide one-on-one support with homework completion, developing study guides, developing individualized lessons, and remedial support. I am academically well-rounded and can support most grade levels. I've supported students with elementary and middle school science, improving reading and writing skills, K-10 math, history and Spanish (up to college).

I received a degree in History, where I specialized in American history. I understand the pressures of an AP history course, as I myself took and passed all the AP level History exams for college credit. I can support your child in crafting document based question responses, in addition to reteaching important lessons from class.

I took a variety of research classes in the History and Political Science Department, and can support students writing either quantitative or qualitative research papers. My main focus was American politics, but am well versed in legal theory, world politics, and general intro courses in either politics or history. I can also support in the creation of study guides and provide resources to supplement your learning.

I spent a lot of time writing research papers in college, and support high school and college students in all stages of the writing process. I can support students with grammatical errors, proofreading, syntax, sentence structure, and citations. I am familiar with most citations styles, including MLA, APA, ASPSA, and Chicago.

I am a former preschool tutor and worked with a group of four students to develop language and literacy skills. I trained to teach elementary subjects with Teach for America in Chicago, and worked with third graders to reinforce both math and reading skills last summer. I have a BA in both history and political science. In high school, I passed the AP world, AP US history, and AP Government exams, and therefore have a good understanding of answering document based questions that are essential for passing most AP courses. I've done research with professors at the American Bar Foundation, and have a passion for teaching.
