I'm Dr. Jay, a PGY-4 psychiatry resident and former Chief Resident at Kaiser Permanente Southern California. I scored in the 92nd percentile nationally on the PRITE. I earned my medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences, where I received a partial scholarship and completed a dedicated research and teaching year, and my BA in Public Health: Biostatistics, with Honors, from UC Berkeley on a full scholarship.

What I help with:
- College admissions - I advise high school students applying to college: essays, school lists, and interviews — plus personal statements, school selection, supplemental essays, and scholarship applications.
- Medical school - MD vs. DO strategy, personal statements, work and activities, secondaries, MMI prep.
- Residency and the Match - ERAS, personal statements, program lists and signaling, away rotations, interviews.
- Career advising - planning and navigating health career paths, from pre-med through residency.
- Research - 14 peer-reviewed publications; I've mentored students through the research process.
- Paying for it - I earned a full ride for college and a partial scholarship for medical school, and I'm happy to share what worked.
Teaching is the part of medicine I love most. From 2014 to 2024, I was a Health Careers instructor and curriculum developer at Stanford School of Medicine, teaching and mentoring pre-med students. I also headed UC Berkeley's Pre-Health Decal course - 60 to 70 students each semester, over 100 waitlisted, and top-recommended by the career counseling office. I co-founded React!, an organic chemistry board game featured on NPR's How I Built This.
I'm here for those who don't fit the template: career changers, reapplicants, a rough semester, a low GPA. You'll get honest, specific feedback and a clear plan forward.
A note: I work with students here as an advisor and teacher, not as a treating physician. I can't provide medical advice or diagnoses.
