Through all my years of teaching math at middle school, high school, and college levels, and tutoring all three groups I found one single common denominator. It is math-phobia. Most students lacked the confidence, not the ability to learn math, or even to shine in math.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have a 2nd degree brown belt in Kenpo Karate and have practiced a variety of other arts with varying degrees. I have been a practitioner of Kenpo Karate for over 20 years. I also designed and taught an integrated unit of martial arts & math to middle school students during a summer program, while I was a teacher.
My qualification and certification would depend on the student's level and goals.

I have had great results with helping students realize the resources that are available to them and utilizing them properly. My specialty is in math topics, though the skill can easily be applied to all subjects. Many students never look at the actual text book for anything other than homework assignments. However, most text books have ample instructions and information to clearly explain the subject matter. I have helped many students learn how to utilize this valuable tool and how to decode the information in easy to understand material.
